The Art Institute of Austin Academic Director Pens New Book

3D Motion Graphics for 2D Artists: Conquering the Third Dimension” a collaboration with college’s faculty

Austin, Tex. – It’s hot off the presses. Bill Byrne, academic director for Media Arts & Animation, Game Art & Design, Digital Filmmaking & Video Production and Visual Effects & Motion Graphics at The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, has written his latest book for applied artists.

"3D Motion Graphics for 2D Artists: Conquering the Third Dimension" was created to fill a void that bridges the gap between 2D and 3D work. Byrne interviewed three faculty members from The Art Institute of Austin - Lucas Dimick, Mayat Andreassen and Dax Norman – who have expertise in both 2D and 3D animation.

For the experienced 2D artist, this book presents the essentials to building and compositing 3D elements into the 2D world of film and broadcast. Concepts and techniques are presented in concise, step-by-step tutorials.

Lessons include exploring the expanded 3D functionality of the Adobe Creative Suite applications (After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator) through a series of practical tutorials. More advanced lessons then follow, with tutorials and insight provided in specifically geared lessons for 2D artists working in Cinema 4D, 3ds Max and ZBrush. Sidebars and tips are offered throughout the book.

Byrne is a multimedia digital artist whose work has been exhibited internationally. His film projects include the title sequence and special effects for the independent feature “Red Doors” (winner, best narrative feature, Tribeca Film Festival 2005). He has also directed and animated the video for "All About House Plants" for the DVD project, “Addendum” by the band One Ring Zero.

In addition to his latest book, Byrne also published “The Visual Effects Arsenal: VFX Solutions for the Independent Filmmaker” in 2009 and co-authored “Creative Motion Graphics Titling” in 2010.
