The New England Institute of Art Gallery on the Plaza presents James Polisky Artwork
His artwork has been called a cross between Edward Gorey and Tim Burton and now, Connecticut-based artist, James Polisky’s work is coming to The New England Institute of Art (www.artinstitutes.edu/boston) in Brookline, MA.
James Polisky has been working in graphic design for over 20 years at a graphic arts/color separation firm in Connecticut. Although he specializes in wall covering and gift wrap during the day, his passion is his silkscreen work that he creates, and amuses himself with, in the off peak hours.
James' artwork is complicated, yet simple. Humorous, yet dark. It is a blend of talents that include drawing, color separation, hand printed silkscreen, as well as an acute observation of the everyday world; both its obscurity and its daily metamorphosis.
"I have always thought my work has sort of an artistic and graphic design aspect to it - both things I am obsessed with - as well as a traditional method of hand silkscreen printing, with the end pieces sort of having a commercial pop appeal, It, for me, is a great collision of my art backgrounds, with an end result being my work. I leave my studio with so much ink crammed under my fingernails, but I would not want it any other way."
The show, in the College's Gallery on the Plaza, runs from October 26 through December 10 and will feature 30 pieces from Polisky. A reception will be held on Thursday, October 29 from 5 – 7:30 and is open to the public. There is no charge.
The Gallery on the Plaza is located at the intersections of Route 9 and Washington Streets in Brookline Village and directly across from the Brookline Village stop on the MBTA’s Green Line. For more information 617 582-4617. www.jamespolisky.com.
