Designers Statement
The design I chose for the poster competition reflects a balance between simple main elements and smaller detail elements that work together to create an image pleasing to be viewed at a distance and up close. There were various sketches I went through before I decided on this one, and although I don’t feel it is the best idea I could have come up with, it was a decent attempt out of the time I had to work on it, which was sadly limited. I selected a color harmony that would seem somewhat strange and even alien to the audience as to immediately attract their attention, and used other design concepts to make sure the viewer wouldn’t drift off immediately to another piece. The phrase “Life is Better with Art in It” can be seen when realizing that the fill used for the larger “LIFE” text, is filled with smaller lines repeating the word “art”. The background gives the sensation of small explosions as to highlight the main object; this is also emphasized with the circular border around the text. Overall it is a strange piece which would look fantastic pinned onto a white wall.
As far as my aspirations go for pursuing a career in the design industry, I am determined and committed to enter the field with a fresh view on design and bring new concepts to people, which will hopefully make them pause for a second and scratch their heads. My recent years have been infected with a core look on the fundamentals of design, and I see it all around me. From the desk I type on to the font I see pop up on screen – I know it all has a purpose in design. Hopefully I will be able to contribute something to this mega verse of ideas, concepts, and art.
