Art Institute of Seattle students come from all over the world and from a variety of backgrounds. Some are fresh out of high school, others have been working for years. Whatever a student's situation, add college to the mix and things can get intense.

For students coming straight from high school, this is probably the first time they have lived away from home. That can be fun. However, with independence comes responsibility. Like doing all the shopping, laundry and household bills, on top of going to college, on top of a part-time job, and on top of fun with friends. For older students there can be a different set of challenges. Like continuing to work full- or part-time while attending The Art Institute and still being there for your family.

Student Affairs Mission Statement
The Student Affairs department of The Art Institute of Seattle supports The Art Institute's mission by providing programs and services that foster the success and personal/professional growth of all students. We achieve this by:

1. Providing efficient student-centered delivery of services.
2. Providing clean and affordable housing.
3. Providing support to students that enhances their traditional academic, study and life skills.
4. Offering personal and emotional counseling services and outreach.
5. Serving as an advocate for student needs and concerns and helping ensure students have input into decisions directly affecting their lives.
6. Encouraging healthy and appropriate behaviors that lead to the development of effective interpersonal skills.
7. Creating and maintaining a campus environment which offers a rich array of intellectual, cultural, social and recreational activities, and opportunities for leadership development.
8. Providing support to international students.
9. Increasing student appreciation for human diversity including consideration of ethnicity, culture, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, religious affiliation, and economic and social background.
