(TAMPA- August 2009)- The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Tampa, a branch of Miami International University of Art & Design, announces the addition of an Associate of Art degree in Baking & Pastry.
Students interested in a career creating tasty treats, breads, pastries, and cakes can now build upon fundamental baking and pastry techniques and artistry to receive an associate’s degree. The new degree program augments the pre-existing Baking & Pastry diploma by including courses like fundamentals of classical techniques, management by menu, and planning and controlling costs, among others.
The employers of today are looking for versatile professionals in their kitchens and places of business said Culinary Department Director Chef Ricardo Castro. “The Art Institute of Tampa continues to increase graduates’ marketability,” said Castro. “Graduates can serve as a pastry cook, cake decorator and creator; and then seamlessly transition to help with banquets or make managerial decisions regarding a menu.”
In addition, associate degree-seeking students will take a course to gain real-life restaurant experience managing the on-campus restaurant called The Tutored Chef. The Tutored Chef is open to the public for lunch and dinner twice a week. The Tutored Chef hours vary depending on course scheduling. Please call (813) 393-2112 for menu and hours of operation.
The Art Institute of Tampa will begin enrolling students interested in the associate program in fall of 2009. For additional admission information, please contact The Art Institute of Tampa admissions department by calling (813) 873-2112 or call toll free 1(866) 703-3277.
