Students from The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Vancouver took home a clutch of awards at EAT Vancouver's culinary competitions in May 2009.
The annual Food and Cooking Festival, EAT Vancouver, sponsored by The Food Network, was held at BC Place and featured a number of cooking and competition stages. Students from The Art Institute of Vancouver won awards for their presentation skills in two categories of competition, both organized by the BC Chefs Association.
In the Chocolate Showpiece category, the team won two Gold and one Bronze medal. In the BC Chefs Culinary Salon competition, the team brought home one Gold, three Silver and two Bronze medals, along with one Honourable Mention.
Paul Vernall, Academic Director for Culinary, said, "The results seen at this competition are a testament to how dedicated and passionate our culinary students are. We are all very proud of their achievements at this event."
The Chocolate Showpiece competition had a theme this year of "Thrive for Gold, 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver" and entrants, ranging from professional chefs to advanced culinary students, were judged on technical skills, creativity and showcasing of the theme. The BC Chefs Culinary Salon judged competitors in a range of categories and focused on cold dish presentation.
