2009 Graduate, Bachelor of Science in Design Management, The Art Institute of Portland
"I am always discovering new areas of interest and am fortunate to work at a great company that fosters curiosity," says Allison R. McKeever, a program manager at frog design. Allison’s job places her in charge of managing client relationships, maintaining budgets and schedules, coordinating design and technology staff activities, and representing clients internally. "I enjoy all aspects of my career, especially the continuous learning curve."
Allison finds inspiration in her co-workers, who she describes as a "diverse, intelligent and entertaining group of people." She also turns to the website Good and Design Mind to get ideas flowing. Allison believes that earning her Bachelor of Science in Design Management degree at The Art Institute of Portland gave her the foundation needed to lead projects. "Having that experience allowed me to get my feet wet at an early stage, building my confidence as a design manager."
Allison believes that design managers are beginning to play a larger role in the creative process. "Regardless of the (job) title—Design Manager, Program Manager, Project Manager, or Account Manager—the design manager has an important role. They are the liaison between the internal business functions and the client's needs." She asserts that clients will value a design manager’s eye for creativity, leading to a wider job description for those in the field. "A design manager can make meaningful contributions to a program, aside from the basic hard skills required by the job."
