As a character animator at Digital Domain, Jack Kasprzak is responsible for shot animation for films including Tron: Legacy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and 2012. His job requires extreme skill and patience. A single shot may take as little as one day—or up to several months—to complete.
Jack, who in 2005 earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Media Arts & Animation from The Illinois Institute of Art—Schaumburg, takes great pride in being a part of blockbuster movies. “It seems more exciting to look back in the future and remember all the great films. My technical accomplishments and tool creation make me also feel as though I have pushed things forward.”
Jack believes that his education helped to prepare him for his career in animation. “I gained a general idea of all aspects of the field so I can do my specialized area better,” he states. Jack adds that students interested in an animation career must find a niche and make it their own. “Do one thing really well and you will be a star. Do two things really well and you will be valued. Three or four and you begin to spread yourself thin.”
