"Once you establish yourself, then start to give more opinions about your design philosophy. It takes a certain level of experience to gain credibility."
—Jared Clark
2010 Graduate, Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design, The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham
As a graphic designer, Jared Clark is responsible for creating and laying out publications including catalogs, postcards, and retail flyers. Since he came on board at Jerry’s Artarama, Jared has been a key player in creating a new look and feel for the company’s catalog. He’s also been asked to create several in-store print materials and mailers.
Jared, who in 2010 earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham, urges budding graphic designers to be flexible in the types of jobs they apply for. “There are very few, purely fun graphic design jobs. Once you establish yourself, then start to give more opinions about your design philosophy. It takes a certain level of experience to gain credibility.”
Jared believes that his education helped to prepare him for his career in graphic design. “Being forced to be creative non-stop (in school) makes doing my job easier,” he states. His background also helped him to develop strong opinions on future design trends. “Create things that people will want to hold and keep. This has always been a goal of mine, and it seems to me that this sort of thinking is on the rise.”
