Jessica Butler: Producer, Hive-FX
Jessica Butler
Class of 2010

The Art Institute of Portland
Employer: Hive-FX
Job Title: Producer

2010 Graduate, Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts & Animation, The Art Institute of Portland

Jessica Butler believes that she's responsible for building her own future. And she's starting by working as a producer at Hive-FX in Portland, Oregon. There, she manages a team of artists that creates 3D renders and animations. She's also responsible for cultivating relationships with high profile clients. "I get to work with amazing people who are extremely talented in a place where no two days at work are ever the same," she says.

Jessica admires the work of Chuck Jones, Pixar's John Lasseter and the original Disney animators, including Milt Kahl, Ollie Johnston, and Frank Thomas. She adds that earning her Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts & Animation degree from The Art Institute of Portland helped her to build the skillsets needed to break into the animation industry. "The foundation classes and critiques have proven to be very useful. As a producer, being able to understand and comment on an artist's work intelligently is invaluable."

Looking to the future of her industry, Jessica believes that 3D work will become more realistic while its demand continues to grow. "I expect the field to continue to grow exponentially with lighting and texture artists being the most valuable assets," she states.
