As an advertising student, Kelli Theiler aimed to best the competition when it came to the job hunt. She created an in-depth portfolio that included supplemental pieces—a media plan, business card, and personally branded sticky notes. After graduation, she hit the pavement and soon landed a job at Carmichael Lynch, a full-service advertising agency in Minneapolis.
Kelli's job responsibilities include researching target audiences and creating profiles for those targets. "All research goes through a number of channels including databases that provide census and survey information," she states. Kelli translates the information into spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations for her clients. She adds that she truly enjoys compiling information and presenting meaningful, insightful data that help her clients' businesses.
She urges current students to focus on their work while in school. "I don't believe it's enough to scramble at the end. It's apparent when viewing your portfolio," she says. Kelli recommends going above and beyond to make an employer remember your skills and talents.
