Photography
The Art Institutes International Minnesota
Employer: Target Corporation
Job Title: Freelance Photographer

2010 Graduate, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, The Art Institutes International Minnesota

Target is often viewed as the go-to store for style-conscious students, so Kelly Moey was excited to learn that her photography skills earned her a contract position with the company—only months after her graduation. "When I am doing contract work for Target, I am taking new props into the system for all Target photo shoots," she states.

Kelly also works freelance jobs that include production, stylist, photo, and set assisting. "One minute I am painting a wall, and the next I am taking in merchandise. Every day is different, that's why I am in freelance."

Adding that her job gives her the opportunity to meet new people each day, Kelly enjoys discovering mentors who help her to build her skills. She believes that working hard and having a positive attitude has allowed her to go far. "Expect to start at the bottom but be proud to have been invited," she tells current students. She mentions that making mistakes is a part of the learning process and encourages photographers to "do the work, make mistakes, learn from them—and let people see it all happen."
