Employer: Frantic Films
Job Title: 2-D Compositor
"Get to know your instructors! Chances are they are working in the industry and this industry relies heavily on connections and word of mouth."
—Matthew Giampa

What’s Matthew doing today?
As a 2-D compositor for Frantic Films, Matthew has worked on projects that range from TV commercials to feature films, including White Noise 2, The Forbidden Kingdom, and Journey to the Center of the Earth. His daily duties consist of integrating 3-D elements into live action plates, keying actors out of green/blue screens, and doing color correction/adding additional footage to make actors and scenes look as realistic as possible.

Creative inspiration
Matthew’s inspiration comes from seeing amazing visual effects in movies and wanting to create something that looks just as good, if not better. He states, “I work with some extremely talented people at Frantic. I have learned a lot from them, and their techniques and input definitely influence the work I do.”

Getting out there
Matthew’s education at The Art Institute of Vancouver continues to pay off as his career path continues to move forward. He offers the following advice to students interested in breaking into the industry. “(This career is exciting because of) the people that you work with and the fact that every project is different. You’re constantly learning, and it keeps things fresh and interesting. Also, nothing beats seeing your name in the credits of a movie.”
