Miilitary Benefits
The Art Institute of Washington is approved for the training of veterans and eligible veterans’ dependents by the District of Columbia Department of Veterans Affairs.
Students sponsored or assisted by the Veterans Administration may receive assistance from the Admissions Department in the filing of appropriate forms. These students must maintain satisfactory attendance and academic progress (see policies section of the catalog for more information). Students receiving veterans' benefits must report all prior education and training before attending The Art Institute of Washington. The Art Institute of Washington will evaluate prior credit and accept that which is appropriate. The time to complete the program and the total tuition will be reduced proportionately and the US Department of Veterans Affairs will be notified.
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges
The Art Institute of Washington is a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, a consortium of national higher education associations that functions in cooperation with the Department of Defense, the military services (including the National Guard), and the Coast Guard to help meet the voluntary higher education needs of service members. Cooperating in cooperation with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command, this consortium includes more than 1500 participating SOC colleges and universities that have agreed to accept for admission new Army and Army Reserves recruits at the time of their enlistment in the service.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program
The Art Institute of Washington is proud to be a Yellow Ribbon college. The Yellow Ribbon program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
As a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, The Art Institute of Washington will voluntarily be able to provide tuition assistance to veterans to help offset all or some of their education costs. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning the ability to assist with tuition costs exceeding the GI Bill’s current maximum benefit rate, based on the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate in the applicable state. The Art Institute of Washington will contribute an additional amount to eligible veterans to offset those expenses and The U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs will match the same amount as the school.
By way of example, let’s look at a veteran who qualifies for 100% of the benefit and enrolls as a full-time student carrying 16 credit hours. At $472 per credit hour, the cost for one quarter would be $7,552. Below is a breakdown of how this expense would be covered:
Veterans Adminstration covers $5,216
Yellow Ribbon Program covers $848
The Art Institute of Washington matches $848
The cost to the student for one quarter: $640
Some fees, such as application fee, enrollment free, student activity fee and certain lab fees can potentially be covered with military benefits.
Supply kit costs and other optional fees typically cannot be covered with military benefits.
Additional financial may be available to those whose qualify.
