DECATUR (GA) – If you love books and love to cook, Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta (LVA) and The Art Institute of Atlanta–Decatur, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta, invite you to come see the products of unleashed imaginations combined with culinary talents at the seventh annual Edible Book Festival, which takes place during the annual Decatur Book Festival! The event benefits LVA and will be held on Saturday, September 4, in The Art Institute of Atlanta–Decatur Gallery at One West Court Square, Suite 110, in Decatur. Set-up begins at 10 am, with the judging and reception from 12 to 2 pm. The reception is open to the public at no charge.
For the second time, The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta and its branch campus, The Art Institute of Atlanta–Decatur, are partnering in this fun and exciting culinary event. According to LVA Executive Director Victoria Kingsland, “We are thrilled to present the 7th Annual Edible Book Festival and we are especially pleased to have The Art Institute of Atlanta—Decatur as our partner again this year. What a delightful way to get the word out to the greater community about the very important work we do at Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta. As it says in my signature line for LVA, ‘Without reading, where would you be?’”
To enter the Edible Book Festival, participants were invited to create a piece of edible art related to books. The entries can promote anything related to books: a scene or character from a book, play, short story, comics, or poem; a book cover; or a book’s structure. All the ingredients must be entirely edible: chocolate, cheese, vegetables, fruit – sweet or savory. Deadline for registration was Tuesday, August 24.
All creations will be exhibited and judged based on the relevance to the theme of the event and the creativity involved. Judges will award prizes in a variety of categories.
The Edible Book Festival originated as a fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta, the only literacy organization in Metro Atlanta that offers one-on-one tutoring in addition to small group classes.
