International Students

International Student Application Requirements:

The Art Institute of Atlanta welcomes students from abroad. All international applicants to The Art Institute of Atlanta must meet the same admissions standards as all other students. English is the language of instruction at The Art Institute of Atlanta and therefore all applicants must demonstrate competence in the English language. All students — regardless of immigration or non-immigration status — must demonstrate competence in the English language by one of the following standards: a diploma or transcript and an institutional profile statement from the student's secondary or post-secondary institution confirming that English is the primary language of instruction; a minimum score of 500 on the written TOEFL or 173 on the computer TOEFL; an equivalent level of English proficiency from an approved English as a Second Language (ESL) program; proof of successful completion of a minimum of two quarters of post-secondary course work at an accredited institution in which English was the language of instruction; or satisfactory completion of English 101 or 102 at an American college or university, achieving a grade of C or better.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-IMMIGRANT STUDENTS

An international student seeking to enroll at The Art Institute of Atlanta in valid F-1 non-immigrant status must submit each of the following items:

  1. A complete and signed application for admission form, including essay.
  2. Original or official copies of all educational transcripts (high school and, if applicable, university academic records) and diplomas. These educational transcripts and diplomas must be prepared in English or include a complete and official English translation.
  3. Proof of English language proficiency (see above for acceptable standards).
  4. A completed and signed sponsor's statement of financial support (not required if the student is self-sponsored).
  5. Official bank statements that verify sufficient funds to cover the cost of the educational program, as well as all living expenses.
  6. A photocopy of the student's passport to provide proof of birth date and citizenship (if the student is outside the United States and has not yet acquired a passport, he or she will need to submit a copy of his or her birth certificate).
  7. A photocopy of the visa page contained within the student's passport, as well as a copy of both sides of the student's I-94 arrival and departure record (required only of applicants residing in the United States at the time of application).
  8. Written confirmation of non-immigrant status at the school previously attended before transferring to The Art Institute of Atlanta (required of applicants residing in the United States at the time of application in either F, M, or J non-immigrant classification).
  9. Proof of health insurance (students who do not possess health insurance upon applying to The Art Institute of Atlanta must be prepared to purchase health insurance through an approved Art Institute of Atlanta provider upon commencement of studies).
  10. A $50 non-refundable application fee and a $100 refundable tuition deposit* must accompany the application.

If an international student is transferring from a college or university in the United States, the International Student Transfer Clearance Form is also required.

The Art Institute of Atlanta is authorized under federal law to admit non-immigrant students.

English as a Second Language
International students who wish to attend The Art Institute of Atlanta, but do not possess the required English language proficiency, must acquire that proficiency before starting classes. Following review by the admissions committee, a student who is otherwise eligible for admission except for English proficiency is referred to one of several local ESL schools for placement testing and, when necessary, language courses. The assistant director of international admissions can provide more information on English language testing and classes at the time of the student's interview.

* refundable up to 90 days before class start date.
