ATLANTA (GA) – “Dreams & Tempests: Photography by Benjamin Rusnak” opens on September 29 in The Art Institute of Atlanta Gallery. Presented in conjunction with the 11th annual Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival, this exhibit captures the human side of poverty in the Caribbean. Photojournalist Benjamin Rusnak creates intimate “peoplescapes” of communities dreaming of living in the paradise that surrounds them as they struggle to survive in the harsh realities of the tropics. A reception and Visiting Artist Lecture with Benjamin Rusnak is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, at 5:30 pm.
Award-wining photojournalist Benjamin Rusnak has been documenting poverty in the Caribbean and Latin America for almost a decade for Food for the Poor, an international relief and development agency. His work has been recognized by Pictures of the Year International, the Best of Photojournalism, the New York Photo Awards, and the Chinese International Press Photo Contest, among others. In 2008, Rusnak’s images “Hope for Life” and “Trashed” tied for first place in the Gordon Parks International Photography Contest. Rusnak currently resides in Boca Raton, Florida.
“Dreams and Tempests: Photography by Benjamin Rusnak” will be on display through October 31. The Art Institute of Atlanta Gallery is located at 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, 100 Embassy Row, Atlanta, GA 30328.
