Degrees offered: Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Associate of Arts, as well as diplomas

Although many students are of traditional college age, others are adult students returning to college to complete a degree or earn a second degree. The Art Institute is committed to a diverse student body and to an educational program that includes art foundation and general education courses, as well as technical courses in each field. From the moment students are accepted, they become part of an environment that supports their efforts to reach their educational and career goals.

The college is located in Sandy Springs just north of I-285 near GA 400, about 20 minutes north of city center, easily accessible by both car and public transportation

History:
Founded in 1949, The Art Institute of Atlanta prepares students for entry-level careers in design, media arts, fashion, and culinary arts by providing a challenging and stimulating educational environment. The Art Institute of Atlanta has six branch campuses: The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, The Art Institute of Charleston, The Art Institute of Tennessee-Nashville, The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, The Art Institute of Washington and The Art Institute of Washington-Dulles.

Facilities:
The Art Institute of Atlanta offers students a five-story, 115,000-square-foot facility featuring Mac and PC computer labs, camera studios, a digital photo lab, a video production studio, digital video editing suites, digital audio labs and recording studios, an animation lab, art labs, drawing studios, drafting labs, teaching kitchens and a dining lab, as well as classrooms, a gallery, a library for study and research, and a student deli and café.

Faculty and Learning Environment::
Students have the opportunity to enjoy small classes, hands-on learning, and close relationships with faculty and staff. The faculty bring solid academic credentials, as well as a wealth of experience in their fields, to the task of assisting students in developing the competencies required for each course.

Alumni of The Art Institute of Atlanta include: Chef Kevin Gillespie (AA, Culinary Arts, 2003), executive chef at Gunshow and finalist on Top Chef; Chef Jamika Pessoa (AA, Culinary Arts, 2004), Life of the Party Caterers, correspondent on ABC’s “The Chew” and contestant on Next Food Network Star; Jim DiVitale (AA, Photography, 1978), principal, DiVitale Photography; Carla Kantola (AA, Interior Design, 1998), owner and principle, C. Kantola Interiors; Jeremy Heilpern (BFA, Web Design & Interactive Media, 2008), chief digital officer, The Morrison Agency.

Community Service:
The Art Institute of Atlanta works with numerous non-profit organizations each year, providing various services at no cost to our partners, which include: Nicholas House, ALS Association of Georgia, March of Dimes – North Georgia, Walk Now for Autism Speaks, Moving in the Spirit, Art Sandy Springs, Atlanta High School Art Exhibition/Dogwood Festival, National Black Chamber of Commerce, Sandy Springs Police Department, Beacon Dance, Every Woman Works, Green Forest Academy, Center for Sustainable Communities, and more.
