LEED Workshop
Are we in a GREEN ERA? Every manufacturer is now calling themselves GREEN, but are they? This workshop is an introduction to LEED ( Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), providing a basic understanding of who the main entities are that set the rules and the reference guides for green Design, such as the USGBC (US Green Building Council) and Energy Star.
We'll learn the 8 categories established by the USGBC to rate buildings and grant certification. The instructor will lecture on each of the 8 categories established in the existing rating system for homes and students will apply that knowledge on a given building in a hands-on exercise.
We'll briefly discuss the financial issues involved in using a technology that is still very new and very costly for clients. We’ll clarify what the process is to register a building for LEED certification.
During this seven-week workshop we'll visit two buildings outside the College that demonstrate two opposing poles in green design.
(Note that this workshop is not a preparatory workshop for the LEED AP exam.)
