Public Transporation (the "T")
- Occupancy: The Complex is a co-educational facility. Each unit in the
building will house only males or females; not both. When a student's
behavior is disruptive to the level that no one wishes to room with that
individual, the student will be billed double rent.
- Explosives/Weapons: No weapons, fireworks, pellet guns, knives,
swords, explosives or dangerous or hazardous substances are allowed in
housing or on campus.
- Alcohol: Empty alcohol containers, the use, possession, or being
under the influence of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in housing.
Students who do not comply will be subject to disciplinary sanctions.
- Drugs, Narcotics and Drug paraphernalia: Selling, use, possession or
being under the influence of marijuana or any narcotic stimulant, or
hallucinogenic drug in violation of state and federal law is prohibited
in housing and on campus. Possession of drug paraphernalia is also
prohibited and can lead to an immediate eviction.
- Gambling Policy: Gambling is illegal and therefore prohibited in
housing and on campus.
- Common Courtesies: No parties are permitted without permission from
management. Radios, TV sets and stereos are to be kept at a moderate
level of volume. Music and noise inside a unit must not be heard outside
a unit. The use of electric guitars, drums or loud musical instruments
is not permitted in housing. Students must treat roommates and the
resident staff with courtesy and respect.
- Student Conduct: Verbal abuse, foul language, insults, physical or
psychological threats or intimidation to other students or staff will
not be tolerated and may lead to eviction and termination from the
College. Criminal acts and violations of state or federal laws while
residing in housing will be grounds for immediate eviction. Student must
comply with all county ordinances, fire and natural disaster evacuation
procedures.
- Guests: Overnight guests are permitted, provided the host student has
attended a Guest Privilege Workshop and all roommates have indicated
consent on the Overnight Guest Form. Guest cannot stay more than two
consecutive nights. Students will be completely responsible for the
behavior of their guests while they are on the premises. The New England Institute of Art Student Housing Department reserves the right
to deny or restrict visiting privileges or evict any guest or visitor if
either the occupant or his/her guest are in violation of any of the
conditions of the housing contract.
- Right of Entry: College reserves the right to enter Student
rooms for purpose of inspection, improvements, or repairs. College
officials may enter and conduct an authorized search of Students' room
for the purpose of investigating suspected violations of regulations.
Permission to search is not required, and all contraband will be
confiscated by College authority. Entry by a College representative may
occur at any time, with or without notice. Entry to a unit and/or
disciplinary action may be taken at the discretion/judgment of a college
official. Immediate action will be taken, which may include a search of
student's personal property if it has been determined that there is a
threat to the safety; health or well being of any member of the college
community or the public.
- Room Condition Report: Upon assuming residency, all residents
must sign a Room Condition Report form. This form is to keep track of
the condition of the room and furnishings as well as to document any
existing damages. It will also serve as an inventory or count of items
in each room. Residents of the room are responsible for all items and by
signing the form acknowledge the existing condition of the room and the
items in the room. This form will be presented to each occupant at
check-in. Inspection and assessment will be completed prior to check-in
by the Residence Life Staff and will be reviewed by each resident. It is
important that the occupant carefully inspect all items listed.
Residents should also review each assessment with the staff person prior
to signing. The Room Condition Report form will be a tool for
determining any damage, alteration, or change in room upon departure.
- Maintenance: The Student(s) are severally and jointly responsible for
the daily care of the Unit. The Housing Staff will inspect all Units on
a regular basis. If repairs are needed, Student must file a maintenance
request. If it is an emergency, Student must notify Residence Director
immediately. Nails, stickers and tape are not to be used on the walls,
windows, mirrors, ceilings, doors or furniture. Furniture must remain
intact and should not be removed from the Unit for any reason. All
garbage and trash should be removed promptly and deposited in the waste
dumpster provided. Absolutely NO modification can be done to the Unit,
furniture or the building without prior written consent. Any defacement
of property will be immediately assessed to Student's account. In
addition, Students who vandalize, damage and/or misuse property in any
way will be subject to disciplinary action.
- Window Tampering: Students may not throw any items from their
windows, nothing can be hung out of the windows including clothes,
clotheslines and aerials of any kind. Any existing window screen should
not be removed. Students may not remove or replace existing window
coverings. Stereo speakers may not be directed out of the windows at any
time.
- Pets: The Student may NOT keep pets in the Unit or elsewhere in
housing and on campus at any time. The Student in violation will be
subject to disciplinary action and will be charged the cost for
extermination services, cleaning and any other restoration required. The
only exceptions are guide dogs accompanying physically challenged
individuals. Students who need this accommodation should first make
arrangements with The New England Institute of Art Students Services.
- Mandatory Orientation: The New England Institute of Art will conduct
a mandatory orientation for all new residents during the first week of
occupancy.
- Mail: Mail is delivered to central mailboxes. Tampering with another
resident's mail is a Federal offense and could result in criminal
charges as well as termination.
- Fire Safety Equipment: Tampering with smoke alarms/detectors, fire
extinguishers and fire alarms will result in a fine levied against the
Student of $500.00 and is cause for immediate eviction.
- Open Flame Devices: Students may not have any open flame devices in
their units. This includes but is not limited to: candles, incense,
kerosene heaters, and electric heaters.
- Restricted Areas: Students may not enter restricted areas such as
roofs, mechanical rooms, telecommunications closets, equipment rooms,
fire escapes and stairwells.
- Discipline Procedure: All Students are to comply with the reasonable
requests of any College official seeking to enforce the Rules and
Regulations of Housing and the Policies and Procedures of The New
England Institute of Art. At the discretion of any College official, all
students assigned to a Unit may be disciplined (Community Service,
Program Assignments, Mandatory Educational Programs, Fined, etc.) placed
on probation, suspended, evicted or otherwise be held responsible for
any violation of the Student Housing Contract or for refusing to comply
with any reasonable request from a College official. Students may face
one or more of the following disciplinary action: Written Warning,
Probation, Suspension and/or Eviction. College officials may, at their
sole discretion, elect not to issue a Written Warning, Probation Notice
or Suspension. A Student evicted from school housing is not permitted to
return for any reason. If the student does returns for any reason, he
he/she may be arrested for trespassing and may be subject to termination
from The New England Institute of Art. In addition, the evicted student
will be responsible for all costs pertaining to the penalties for
breaking the housing contract. A serious breach of the Rules and
Regulations entitles the College to evict immediately and may lead to
termination from the College. All conditions of a regular eviction
apply. If in the judgment of any College official a student is a clear
and present danger to himself, others or property he/she will be subject
to an immediate eviction. Students have the right to appeal an eviction
within 48 hours to the Associate Dean of Student Services.
