Sam received a Fulbright Fellowship to Russia in Creative Writing in 2001, and has won numerous poetry awards. His first collection of poems, Everlasting Quail, was published by the University Press of New England in fall 2001. Sam has taught at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Iowa, Saint Petersburg State University, and Harvard University.
