The New England Institute of Art Introduces Three Bachelor of Science Degree Programs

- (May 4, 2004)

The New England Institute of Art today announced the approval by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education of three Bachelor of Science Degree Programs; Digital Filmmaking & Video Production, Interior Design and Media Arts & Animation.

"The new four-year program in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production has been developed in response to the demand for increasingly sophisticated media content," says Tom Dyer, Dean of Academic Affairs. Graduates of the new program will be qualified to create and manage content for distribution through almost all types of media, including the Web. The program will focus on content creation, allowing students to learn to formulate, construct, and deliver digital audio, video, broadcast graphics, and animation. "Digital media production is an area in which emerging - some would say evolving - technologies are used to create, develop, and deliver content."

The Interior Design Bachelor of Science Degree Program broadens the range of courses already offered at the college. "Interior Design is a natural off shoot for many of our students who are already enrolled in graphic design," Dyer says. "Of course we expect to attract many new students with this specialization." Students in the program will develop abilities in all aspects of the design of three-dimensional space, both residential and commercial, with studies rooted in an historical and cultural context.

Media Arts & Animation will combine 2-D, 3-D and production, preparing students for careers in animation in such areas as design or modeling, storyboarding, texture painting, animation, lighting, compositing and rendering. "This program will dovetail very nicely with our Graphic Design and Multimedia & Web Design programs," adds Dyer.

Both Digital Filmmaking & Video Production and Media Arts & Animation courses will be offered in the summer semester, beginning on May 17, 2004. Interior Design will begin in the fall.

The New England Institute of Art is located in Brookline Village and also offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Audio & Media Technology, Graphic Design and Multimedia & Web Design, as well as Associate in Science degrees in Broadcasting. The College also offers certificate of completion programs in Digital Audio Production, Digital Graphic Design and Web Site Development through its Center for Professional Development.
