- 3D Animation
Instructor: Nancy Moskin
Goal:
. Plan and develop an animated sequence
for video, web, or CD distribution using storyboards
. Work in a 3D space as represented in 2D using an XYZ co-ordinate
system
. Create and control motion through several techniques: keyframing,
metamorphing, hierarchical chains, IK
. Create 3D objects starting from "primitives", platonic
solids, points, curves, text
. Customize objects by using both additive and subtractive tools
. Control the surface appearance of the objects via both procedural
textures and images
. Use lighting effectively by creating, positioning and customizing
light sources
. Render single frames and image sequences
. Save work in a variety of stages and ways: scenes, objects,
projects, images, renders
. Manage files and projects in this complex environment
. Utilize rendered output
Assignment:
to create their own animation segment within a unifying
framework that the students chose. The framework they developed
was to have one object from their segment installed in a virtual
Museum of Alien Archeology. The object(s), in the museum display,
served as a way to link the individual segments together.
