MM290 - Information Architecture
Instructor: Heather Shaw

Goal: This class introduces students to the tools and concepts used in "desktop" digital video production and non-linear editing. Students shoot video using Mini-DV camcorders, edit in Apple's Final Cut Pro, and composite graphics and effects an Adobe After Effects. In addition to storyboarding and pre-visulization skills, students learn how to effectively communicate using the language of moving images.

Asssignment: Students were provided with a large collection of facts and statistics. Pick three statistics you feel relate to each other, yet each fact should stand alone as an understandable statistic. The student had to choose three statistics (provided) that they felt worked well as a whole.

Students then had to storyboard an animation visually depicting each statistic “happening.” For instance, using animation to show something growing, shrinking, moving etc. Although they are working with 3 statistics; animations should flow well together to create one coherent story. Incorporate elements of sound + motion to accentuate areas.

Purpose
To present complex data in a manner that makes the information more tangible and easy to understand. Explore how adding the element of time-based media can make complex concepts clearer.

Objective
Presenting complex concept in a clear concise way. Organized and visual presentation of data. To use motion and interactivity as tools to clarify information.
