The Advertising bachelor's degree program at The New England Institute of Art will provide a solid art and design foundation combined with hands-on courses in the business and marketing side of advertising. Students will begin with a foundation in color and design, photographic imaging, graphics, and layout. The program continues with studies in marketing and will address business issues and industry concerns facing advertising agencies. Students learn basic website and publication design and study animation for multimedia. As part of their coursework, all students will complete an internship and create a portfolio to show to prospective employers. With a solid foundation in both the design and business side of advertising, graduates are prepared for entry-level positions with advertising agencies, design studios, marketing firms, corporate and retail marketing departments, and production companies. Entry-level positions include account executives, advertising artists, creative directors, graphic artists or designers, junior media buyers, and marketing support assistants.

There are several large advertising agencies in Boston and many small to medium ones in the surrounding cities in New England. Employment opportunities also exist on the "client-side" of advertising at other local businesses, such as in promotions/marketing departments at larger companies in the New England area. Graduates may gain skills which make them more marketable through cross curricular collaboration. For example, an advertising graduate with some knowledge of television production would be more marketable.
