Academic Achievement Center
The Academic Achievement Center at The Art Institute of Charleston
The Academic Affairs Department at The Art Institute of Charleston is committed to academic excellence for all students. Tutoring services are provided in all subject areas. Tutors are students (with a 3.5 GPA or above in the academic area that they are tutoring) assisting other students with time management issues, self-advocacy, goal setting and task completion. There are supplemental materials in the Academic Achievement Center available to students to assist with projects.
To enable a student’s success, we work with parents as partners carefully designing success plans for students who are on academic probation or have been terminated. We work with students who are having academic difficulties and have no cost and low-cost options for testing services in the community. Additionally, we conference with students who are having attendance problems to identify the main concern and improve attendance. We advocate for students who have problems due to family concerns and personal matters, and observe students in classrooms developing plans to enhance learning that adapt to the student’s learning style. Tape recorders are provided for students with communication difficulties. At the Academic Achievement Center, we conference with instructors and assist them in understanding the types of learning problems that a student may have. Additionally, we provide a safe place for all students to come and receive assistance anytime the building is open, supporting them in any areas that they express concern about. We offer a dedicated, soundproof area that is used for Compass testing.
