New York Illustrator Lynne Foster On Location in Charleston
Noted Artist Hits Charleston Streets with Art Institute of Charleston Students on Fri., Aug. 12
WHO: Noted New York illustrator and painter Lynne Foster and students from The Art Institute of Charleston, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta
Lynne Foster lives and works in New York City as an illustrator, designer and painter. She was inspired by the New York jazz scene while a student and became the artist in residence at a local jazz club in the West Village. She received her BFA and her MFA from the School of Visual Arts and teaches part-time at Pratt Institute and City College of New York. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in several museums and galleries. Lynne’s portraits and drawings convey a conspicuous energy in the quality of her line, form and bold color relationships.
WHAT: A location drawing workshop in downtown Charleston.
Students will learn to envision – and capture on paper – the stories of the city, its architecture and passers-by. At the end of the day, they will attend a special critique focused on how to blend their work into a dynamic poster that adds depth to the stories behind the sketches.
WHEN: Friday, August 12, 10 am – 3 pm, with critique following from 3 – 4 pm
WHERE: Streets in downtown Charleston
ABOUT: The workshop is part of The Art Institute’s “Connect to Reality” series of workshops, tours and speakers presented during Summer 2011. Students are invited to participate in events ranging from sessions on social networking with circapr and make-up with Andrew Peterson as Cos Bar to magazine design with alumnus Braxton Crim, a poetry workshop with Marjory Wentworth and Marcus Amaker, or interior design with Janine James. The series is designed to give students up-close and personal experiences with professionals in the fields they are studying in the classroom.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: Students armed with sketchbooks, colored inks, brushes and watercolor, pencils and drawing pens, will be scattered throughout downtown Charleston drawing whatever inspires them. Watch art in the making and talk to students about their work. Lynne Foster is available to speak with the media.
