Surviving It All: The Art Institute of Charlotte Offers Workshops To Help You "TAKE CONTROL" In Tough Times

Opting to re-do rather than buy? Want to stand out from the crowd when you’re job hunting?

Whether it’s your home, your wardrobe or your resume that needs refreshing, The Art Institute of Charlotte will offer three public workshops this spring aimed at helping you take control of your circumstances in these difficult economic times.

The 80-minute workshops in interior design, fashion and job-hunting will be open to the public without charge on Saturday, April 18. They will be offered simultaneously from 9:00 to 10:20 a.m. and again from 10:30 to 11:50 a.m. at The Art Institute of Charlotte, Three LakePointe Plaza, 2110 Water Ridge Parkway, Charlotte 28217. Parking is available without charge.

RSVPs are required for the workshops. Please respond with your choice of workshops and times at eventbrite.com.

In a slow housing market and slower economy, many people are opting to update or redesign their homes rather than buy new ones. Joan R. Faison, ASID, a licensed Professional Interior Designer, will give you tips on how to refresh your old home to make it seem like new.  Ms. Faison has spent more than 20 years in Interior Design and Interior Design education. She is Academic Director for the Department of Interior Design at The Art Institute of Charlotte, and, last spring Ms. Faison was selected as one of Charlotte Taste magazine’s Taste-Makers.

For those who are seeking new jobs or facing the daunting prospect of job-searching in a less than ideal time, Darchele Smith, Director of Career Services at The Art Institute of Charlotte, will give you quick and easy tips on updating and refreshing your resume for maximum “sale-ability” and on those all-important job interviews. She’ll also offer other job-hunting advice. Ms. Smith, with more than 10 years in marketing and career development, has been a Career Services advisor at The Art Institutes in Houston, San Francisco and in Charlotte.

Need to spiff up the wardrobe or just want a new look? This may not be the time for you to go shopping, but Fashion Marketing Instructor Mike Watson can help you update your look without spending a lot of money. He’ll give you tips on how to use what’s in your closet as well as how to shop on a tight budget. Watson spent eight years in the fashion marketing industry, serving as regional manager for Gadzooks in Atlanta and regional director of Hot Topic in Philadelphia, prior to beginning his teaching career with The Art Institute of Charlotte. While working in visual merchandising, Watson also has staged fashion shows and fashion photo shoots.
