NEW PHOTOGRAPHY DIRECTOR APPOINTED AT THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHARLOTTE


Back Joe Ciarlante, Photography Director

CHARLOTTE, NC – – Professional photographer and educator Joe Ciarlante, owner of Ciarlante Photography in Charlotte since 1985, has been named Academic Department Director of Photography at The Art Institute of Charlotte.

A commercial photographer for 31 years, Ciarlante also has been involved in photographic education for more than 26 years. As Academic Director (chairman of the Photography Department), he will oversee the departmental affairs including academic standards and policies, class schedules, faculty and community involvement. His appointment was announced by Douglas N. Heaps, Dean of Academic Affairs at The Art Institute of Charlotte.

The Art Institute of Charlotte began its Bachelor of Arts program in Photography in April 2008. Ciarlante was the first instructor hired for the new program.

“It is a pleasure to announce the appointment of Joe Ciarlante as Academic Director of Photography,” said Heaps. “Since he joined The Art Institute of Charlotte, Joe has proven to be an effective and popular instructor, and we look forward to his taking on new challenges as head of a growing academic program.”

Ciarlante holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from The Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and a Master of Fine Arts in photography from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  His teaching experience includes Northwestern University at Chicago, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Winthrop University, as well as several organizations for professional photographers which he founded and continues to lead and mentor.
 
The Art Institute of Charlotte offers bachelor’s degrees in Culinary Arts Management, Digital Filmmaking & Video Production, Fashion Marketing & Management, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography and Web Design & Interactive Media.
