A prospective student seeking admission to any bachelor’s degree program at The Art Institute of Charlotte must be a high school graduate with a minimum high school CGPA of 1.5, or hold a General Education Development certificate (GED) with a minimum numeric score equivalent to a 1.5 GPA.
A prospective student seeking enrollment to any associate degree program at The Art Institute of Charlotte must be a high school graduate with a minimum high school CGPA of 1.5, or hold a General Education Development certificate (GED) with the numeric score equivalent to at least a 1.5 GPA.
In order to matriculate at The Art Institute of Charlotte, a student must provide proof of graduation from a high school that is approved by The Art Institute of Charlotte.
Proof of graduation can be in one of the following forms:
- An official high-school transcript
- General Educational Development (GED) test scores
- An official transcript from a nationally or regionally accredited — recognized by the U. S. Department of Education — postsecondary school that demonstrates completion of an associate’s**, bachelor’s, master’s, or higher degree
- An equivalent exam approved in the laws or regulations of a specific state in lieu of the GED
- Completion of 150 word essay
The Art Institute of Charlotte utilizes a placement test to assess students’ preparedness to take college-level English, math, and computer applications. Applicants must complete placement testing prior to acceptance. Minimum scores on the SAT or ACT may be used in lieu of the placement test. Exceptions will be made for the following:
- A minimum SAT score of 500 - Verbal, 500 - Math
- A minimum ACT score of 19 on applicable sections
- An earned associate’s or a bachelor’s degree
- Transfer credits for 100-level English and math
The schedule for placement testing is as follows:
- Placement testing is available daily. All placement tests can be scheduled through the Admissions department.
Application Information
Records: You must present a record of proof of high school graduation or GED, as well as a high school transcript.
In lieu of documenting high school graduation, applicants who have graduated with a bachelor's degree or higher (or its equivalent, if earned at an institution located outside of the United States) from an accredited institution of postsecondary education can provide official college transcripts showing degree granted.
Portfolios & College Exams: Portfolios are welcomed, but not required. Applicants who have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) are encouraged to submit scores to the Admissions Office for evaluation.
High School Seniors: High school seniors who have not yet graduated from school should submit a partial transcript that indicates their expected graduation date.
All applicants are evaluated on the basis of their previous education, background, and stated or demonstrated interest in Culinary Arts, Fashion Marketing, Graphic Design, Interior Design and Interactive Media Design. Portfolios are welcomed, but not required. Applicants who have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) are encouraged to submit scores to the Admissions Office for evaluation.
When there are no transfer credits in English and/or math to be considered, The Art Institute of Charlotte assesses the incoming student’s abilities. Students who need additional support to successfully complete college-level English or math courses will be enrolled in appropriate developmental studies offered by the school.
