Artisan Restaurant
The Culinary Arts program of The Art Institute of Charlotte opened its learning
restaurant, Artisan, in February 2004. Inside the first floor of The Art Institute
of Charlotte, Artisan seats 48 patrons in a warm and intimate setting.
Students in their 6th quarter of study alternate between the kitchen and the
front of the restaurant. They learn not only the skills of cooking for large
numbers of people but also how to manage a restaurant properly – from busing
tables to operating a cash register.
The luncheon menu features creative American cuisine at reasonable prices.
The Artisan menu changes with each academic quarter to reflect fresh seasonal
foods, and our chefs purchase organically grown products whenever possible.
Current operating hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. The restaurant closes when students are not in attendance at
school. Visitors are encouraged to call 704-357-5900 for reservations or to
confirm the restaurant’s hours.
Artisan and the Slow Food/Charlotte movement will host a book-signing with
Internationally acclaimed chef/ restaurateur Alice Waters of Chez Panisse at 11
a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Student Lounge of The Art Institute of Charlotte.
A luncheon at Artisan is sold out. The public also may attend a free forum and
discussion with Ms. Waters and culinary students from 2:15 to 3 p.m. in the
Student Lounge of The Art Institute of Charlotte.
