Cutting edge Styles Hit Runway at FAME 2009
The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago Design Students Reveal Future of Fashion
Chicago, Ill. – From steam punk to cutting edge evening and sportswear, the styles hitting the runway at FAME 2009 are so diverse that everyone is bound to find garments to suit their taste. Students from The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago are showcasing their top designs at the Fourth Annual Fashion and Media Extravaganza on Friday, March 6.
The backdrop for the designs in this year’s show is a stage set inspired and designed by a student from the college’s interior design department. In addition to some of the standard designs that accompany fashion shows, FAME 2009 will present sustainable designs inspired by the green gift card at The Shops at North Bridge. All the “green” garments are made from repurposed and recycled clothing and accented with the gift cards.
Judging for the fashion show took place on Feb. 13, but the results will not be announced until the end of the evening. Judges for the competition included Dorothy Fuller and Marcia Brenner from the Apparel Industry Board, Macy’s Andrea Schwartz, David Yurman’s Laura Wallace, Andy Gloyeske of Saks Fifth Avenue and Xochil Herrera of Eliana Lily among others.
FAME 2009 will be held on Friday, March 6 at Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Models are set to hit the runway at 1 p.m. for the afternoon show and at 8 p.m. for the night performance. The media show featuring animation, filmmaking and visual effects are at 11a.m. and 6 p.m.
General admission tickets may be purchased for $35 from the Harris Theater box office in person, over the phone at 312.334.7777 or on line www.harristheaterchicago.org. The ticket price includes admission to both the fashion and media shows.
