Local Interior Design Program Climbs in National Rankings
Chicago, Ill. – Students from Illinois and surrounding states don’t have to travel far to receive a nationally renowned degree program in interior design. For the second year in a row the interior design program at The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago is nationally ranked. In DesignIntelligence’s 10th annual edition of America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools the college is now ranked as one of the top 10 undergraduate interior design programs in the country, up from a top 15 ranking last year. The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago has the only ranked undergraduate program in Illinois.
According to DesignIntelligence, “leaders who have direct and recent experience in hiring recently graduated architecture and design professionals” participated in a mid-2008 survey. Respondents were asked to rate how satisfied they were with the preparedness of new graduates.
The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago Interior Design Academic Director Melissa McAtee credits the dedication of her faculty to the program’s success. There are currently just under 200 students enrolled in the interior design program at the college. The program provides students with specialized courses that emphasize the technical development, aesthetics, problem-solving and collaborative skills necessary to become employed in commercial and residential design.
