Designers Statement
 “Art refers to a diverse range of human activities, creations and expressions that are appealing or attractive to the senses or have some significance to the mind of an individual.”

Having always been interested in and practicing arts throughout my life, I often hear my observers comment on how they wish they had artistic talent. They seem surprised when I tell them that everyone is artistic and everyone has the capability of turning those artistic skills into a profitable career. Art, to me, is exactly what the previous quote says it is. Any superior quality an individual possesses can be, and should be, considered an art. My mom, for example, can’t draw an apple on paper, but she can make a delicious apple-shaped pancake with ease. She rolls her eyes at me when I tell her that this is her creative expression coming to surface.

What I admire about The Art Institutes, and what I tried to show with my poster design, is the fact that they encourage all types of creativity. They allow their students to take their passions and talents that were previously used solely for hobbies and turn them into employable skills. In my poster I have shown three different types of careers represented by The Art Institutes. They include Culinary, Design/Media Arts, and Fashion. When a viewer looks at this poster, I want them to be able to say: “Hey, I love putting different outfits together. I wonder if I could get paid to do what I love.” Or, “I’m great at cooking. Maybe I could be a chef.” Or, “Oh, that’s how I could apply my computer and drawing skills.” The colors I used - cyan, magenta, yellow and black - represent a personal endearment. These colors have become extremely important to me during these last two years of preliminary graphics education, and they will remain important to me throughout my future. The CMYK lines coming from behind the figures represent how these individuals spread their creativity into the world through Fashion, Design/Media Arts, and Culinary. They extend from The Art Institutes logo and empower the students.

I am currently in my second year in the Graphic Communications program at the Newaygo County Career Tech Center in Fremont, MI. Being in this program has created a great way to channel my love for art and communication into a profitable career path. I love being able to help others by solving their design problems. My favorite thing, however, about the graphics field is that there are endless opportunities to learn and express my creativity. I wanted to show how The Art Institutes enhance our world by training students to be creative with their passions. The student’s lives are better with art in it because art is whatever they enjoy doing. Their customer’s lives are better with art in it because training these students to do what they love produces quality items and improves our world, one work of art at a time. Being one of those students would allow me to take part in this wonderful contribution.
