Designers Statement
In my submission for the poster design contest, I submitted a poster of a girl on a space-like background. For the photograph of the model, I got her to think of the phrase, “Look what I can do” or “Just watch me,” making her face suggest that she’s got something that she’s ready to show or prove to the viewer. The reason I edited her eye to be a spectrum of colours is the fact that colour is the basis for almost every type of art. Even if the art isn’t visual, colours still represent feelings, and with this she’s feeling a little bit of everything. I chose a space background because it is so limitless and full of wonderful things. Where else but in space could I pull off the cloud-like formation behind her head, with rays of light shining through? The rays of light that seem to be shining down can symbolize many things. For me, the primary symbol is light or enlightenment. Art gives so many things to everyone who views it. Art can add emotion, inspiration, knowledge or awareness. Back to the space background: Space is like art: The possibilities are limitless, as long as you’re set on reaching your goals. Think about history: People thought putting a man on the moon was impossible, but we, as humans, did it. Just like space exploration, art is expanding to new mediums.

I want to enter the graphic design field because it’s more than just a passion for me. Art is something I have wanted to do all my life, and in the last five years I have put art and digital design together and I enjoy creating digital art more than anything. Art, along with graphic design, will last a very long time. Many people believe we need art to stay sane, stay human. I am one of those people. With graphic design being so interwoven with technology, I can only see the graphic design field evolving. Lastly, when I dream up some design or layout, I never treat it as unreachable. I look at it with the attitude that anything is possible. As I mentioned, we thought we couldn’t put a human in space, but we did. Why not think the same about design? Anything is possible and any medium is a canvas. You just need the right tools.
