Designers Statement
When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I think about is getting to the computer to create. Growing up in such troubled times has led me to search for an escape from all the ugliness that occupies the world right now. I have found that escape in graphic art. Graphic design is a safe haven, a world I can dwell in and turn anything I find ugly into something beautiful. For me, being able to get into the field of graphic design has nothing to do with just having a job that’s cool or making money. To me, this is life. I cannot even imagine how amazing it will be to spend hours and hours creating something and falling in love with every project assigned to me. I want to show the cynics and pessimists that parts of this lifetime are so gorgeous it can bring tears to your eyes. I want something I create to be seen in a shop window or a bus somewhere and inspire a teenager like myself to follow their dreams.

I believe my piece reflects this concept. This is a picture of my mother when she was a child. She has inspired me in a great way to follow every dream I have. To me, my piece speaks the notion that “life is better with art in it” because it frees up your mind and lets the creative juices flow and turn into something beautiful. Not only that, but art can also mend a broken heart and allow the emotions to reach out and turn themselves into a painting, graphic, sketch, movie, anything! And maybe even un-break another person’s heart and allow them to be free of the things clouding their mind. If my piece could talk, it would say that life is better with art in it because art is a chain reaction. It is all around us, making its way out of our heads, eyes and bodies, touching everyone around and opening up others eyes.
