I am a person full of imagination and inspiration for fantasy and mysterious things. In my work I intended to create environments and scenes that don't really exist in real life. I want to use my creativity to eliminate the boring realism of life and replace it with a dreamy, abstract and wonderful world. I interpreted 'Life is Better with Art in it' as an idea of a radiant world that is filled with all the fascinated and lively aspects of art. Art can reach out of bounds, touch and enrich your life. Colors are an important key, it helps providing a more touching and mysterious scenes. I really enjoyed manipulating all the elements in this design. Art and design are a passion to me and are the best way for me to share my mind with the world. Seeing, appreciating the architecture, paintings, sculptures, or anything small things of art, fascinated me . Art is lifestyle for me. I live for it and I live by it. Being able to design something that you can show to the world is so gratifying to me. I believe that the Graphic Design field will allow me to use my visual spatial, creative mind to devote my life for art.

Art is a way of life and makes our lives vivid. It means so much to me because I love being creative. Art is everywhere and you see it everyday whether it’s architecture, nature, fashion, music, etc. Without art, there would be no culture and the world wouldn’t be what it is today. I feel like it is our duty as artists to help fill our world with color to make it beautiful through our creativity and from our ideas and imagination. In this poster I designed, I wanted to show that our world is a colorful place unlike any other. That is why I splashed paint in the earth with colors. Unlike the moon, we are full of life which is why our planet stands out. The flowing lines of colors are there to show that we revolve around colors. I grew up loving art as a child and drew all the time in school. As I got older, I was introduced to Photoshop in High School. I picked up on it right away and really enjoyed using it. This broadened my horizons as I was experimenting with what I can do in Photoshop through self-learning and I was getting to know the many styles of art out there. The field of graphic design is definitely my field of study so that I could become a better artist and designer. As long as I'm a part of it, I will always be happy. This is my talent and my chance to show the world what I can do.

‘Life is better with art in it’, my poster supports this statement. There is a clear contrast between the white space above the girl and the spectrum of colors below the umbrella. The whole composition itself is simple, but effective. It’s message is simple yet complete. It is designed to highlight the contrast between life with and without art.   The role of an umbrella is to protect, sheltering you from the rain. The irony in this poster is that instead, the umbrella rains colours on you and shields you from the plain white monotony above. The girl has a dreamy expression and appears to be in a blissful state. It represents the same ecstasy you feel when creating art. You travel into your own ‘colorful’ world. The poster’s concept emphasises that art makes us appreciate what life has to offer, and without it we are deprived of a rich and varied experience.  Therefore, life is better with art in it. Through graphic design I can use my creativity intensively and develop skills that enable me to express myself whilst becoming more marketable as a professional designer. This degree will put me in good position to fight for a place in the highly competitive world of creative design, media and marketing. I will be able to share ideas with the community while gaining inspiration and ideas from others. I am determined to improve design, using my potential to share my concepts. Through my design ideas I want to make people think, changing the way people see the world.

In this piece, I wanted to show various representations of life. The most obvious being the earth, our planet.  When I had the idea for this design, I drew the hands holding the earth because I felt that art is a major part of life.  Art is used to not only create paintings for galleries or logos for companies, but also as a necessary step in designing cars, utensils, and even our own homes, so in a sense, life is in our hands. Other symbols of life I used are the roots and leaves stemming from the hands.  When I personally think of life, trees are the first to come to mind, so I wanted to incorporate them into the poster.  After a bit of research, I discovered the Chinese consider the mushroom to symbolize a long life and happiness, so it seemed only natural to add them.  All in all, a main theme of my design is nature, because I believe nature to be one of the greatest teachers an artist can have. My favorite part of this piece is the added line, "What are you waiting for?"  I have come across so many people who will not pursue their dream to be an artist for fear of failure.  I have fallen victim to my own lack of confidence, allowing myself to be talked out of many projects simply because I feared the results.  Now I realize I am blessed with a gift for art and I shall not allow fear to strip me of my dreams and neither should you. The desire to enter the field of graphic design began when I saw many artists creating art for the bands I frequently listened to.  I said to myself, "How awesome it would be to have someone wear my art!" However, from there, I soon saw graphic design as more than just creating designs for shirts, but for any and everything.  I realized I could create pieces for businesses of any form, there is no limit.  My dream is to now create art for many different people and on many different surfaces, and I feel getting an education in graphic design will allow me to transform my passion for art into a career.

I was first introduced to the field of graphic design at the start of the 09-10 school year. I decided to take a design class at Maxwell High School of Technology because I’ve always been a perfectionist, interested in art, and fairly decent with computers. After the first few weeks I realized that it is my passion and that graphic design is what I want to do for the rest of my life. The design for the “Life Is Better With Art In It” poster illustrates the idea of painting the world and “adding color to it.” The people painting the world are white silhouettes to show equality and that no one is different, and that we all have a chance to give some color to the world through art, in whatever form it may be.

Art has always been a major part of my life, but when I was younger the idea of going to an art school was more like a fleeting dream than a goal. I hadn’t considered it to be a particularly bright decision at the time, but after spending the last several months applying to art colleges I’ve realized that I never really had a choice to begin with. Art is what I do and artist is what I’ll be.Interestingly enough, the main reason I had changed my mind about becoming a professional artist was the same as the theme of this contest: life is better with art in it. Because it’s true. Art isn’t some hobby or mindless time killer, art isn’t a waste of our life- art is life. Everyday we use it to tell stories, communicate messages, inspire change. We use it to make our world a tolerable place to exist in and so it is everywhere. And so I want to be a part of that. I plan to study Animation and Media Arts art the Art Institute of Austin because life is better with art in it and I want to show that in any way I can. Whether it’s through movies, cartoons or even video games I want to teach future generations that no matter what form it takes, art makes life better. The strong connection I had with the theme of this competition made coming up with a design surprisingly easy. I had my original concept almost instantly. The poster itself includes a man opening a door in a world without art, and as it opens the color and beauty that art creates floods in, coloring him in the process. I chose this concept not only because it fit the idea that the world is a better place because of art, but also because I felt many young artists could relate to it. I know many students my age whose lives have improved after getting into art, and that includes me as well. I was hoping to inspire younger students to get involved in art and inspire others.

The concept I tried to visually narrate through this poster was how “Life is better with art” through showing life without art, and a better life with art. I did this by dividing the poster up into two different parts. On the left, the poster is black and white and lacks artistic elements representing life without art. While on the right side of the poster, there is color and artistic elements representing life with art making a conflict with the bland opposing side of the poster. Naturally, the right side is much more appealing, as life is better with art.In addition, I wish to enter the field of design so I can communicate to others in a lively, entertaining way through the visual sense. I enjoy designing visual pieces of art and can see myself doing this as a profession and the field of design is the best, and most enjoyable field to be in do this.

In a world in where we live only once, I strongly believe that it is imperative to fulfill your lifelong dreams and to not limit your creative capabilities. In my poster, I portray the burst of imagination and creativity from a girl’s mind with vivid colors and drawings that come to life. The magnitude of liveliness in this picture represents the extent of the creativity in which the girl possesses.  Life is beyond great if art is included in it, and the lively smile that sits upon the girl’s face portrays this truth. Without art, we’d be living dull and monotonous lives. We only live once; therefore we must not imprison our creative genius within the confines of our skulls. As I grow more, I see the graphic design field as a magical key that unlocks any door. Working in graphic design opens your world up to so much more, from business cards to logos to clothes and so much more. I’d love to enter this field of art to be able to spread my artistic capabilities among all sorts of projects. I feel as if I must make the most out of my life, so I have big dreams I need to accomplish. One of the more significant goals is to launch a street wear brand, so I believe that with graphic design, I’ll grow closer and closer to fulfilling my dream.

Art has always been my drive since I was really young. It lets me create new things and makes my mind boggle in every possible way. I truly could not imagine life without any sort artistic interpretation of any kind, so the theme “Life is better with art in it” made my mind racing. This piece shows how the world seems more vibrant because of art, and how nature constantly inspires artists around the world. Having art in life makes it entertaining, spontaneous, and beautiful.Ever since I received a Wacom graphics tablet and a copy of Photoshop when I was thirteen, I could not stay away from digital painting. These tools made it possible for me to expand my horizon and take a great leap forward as an artist. The best part of doing a digital painting is starting from scratch and work all the way up to a nice finished polish. Graphic design makes this possible too. It challenges me to see what colors work together, and how I can string the elements together to make a piece. The field of graphic design would allow me to learn so much more about painting, composition, and design to make a better artist and make me the best I can be.

My design for the poster competition is styled after propaganda posters.  I always admired the visual strength of propaganda posters and decided that it would be the perfect way to send the powerful message that "Life is better with art in it".  Below we see the desolation of an artless world but as our eyes are directed toward the paint brush we see the beauty of art as it brightens our world and even covers some of the destruction.  Life would be bleak without creativity, color, and art in all its forms.I have always had a creative mind.  As a child I would solve puzzles in ways nobody thought to try;  I would see things in ways nobody else saw.  I rarely ever tried to spread my creativity from my mind to my hands until I was about 5 years old when my dad brought home our first computer.  Along with the computer came games.  Once I played Power Pete for the first time I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life;  I wanted to make video games.  I started drawing and creating my own ideas for games but still my hands could not keep up with my creative mind.  Every one of my drawings remained sloppy throughout middle school.  It wasn't until Freshman year in high school that I was able to produce decent drawings.  The summer before Sophomore year I took a course on 3D game creation where I scratched the surface of the 3D modeling program, Maya, and became fascinated with the software.  I've been creating 3D game models ever since then but most of them have no color because I've only just learned how to use Photoshop.  During my Junior and Senior years in high school I took a graphic arts class and fell in love with Photoshop just as I had with Maya.  I've spent many hours in each program refining my creative skills and learning more about the programs; My dream of becoming a 3D game artist is almost complete all I need now is a formal education from The Art Institute.
