Video Production students create newscast for Dallas Cable Channel 16
(Dallas – September 17, 2008)
On Monday, September 22, Digital Filmmaking & Video Production students at The Art Institute of Dallas shot “Talk Back Dallas,” a 30-minute entertainment newscast set to air on Dallas cable channel 16. The completely student-produced project will air for 3 months – times vary daily.
This is the fourth show that the students have filmed since the summer of 2007, when the City of Dallas Public Information Office first approached The Art Institute of Dallas about a joint venture to provide additional content for their programming.
The first show was shot in the fall of 2007, and the students in that initial quarter designed the video open and graphics which are still used today. They also came up with the name "Talk Back Dallas."
The project was a group effort: instructor Dutchie Reid came up with a theme for each show, and instructor Vince Williams’ filmmaking students shot around 5-8 video packages based around the theme. Public service announcements air between segments, and they are all created by the Producing and Directing class.
Students learn how a multi-camera entertainment/news program is produced from beginning to end. They also learn all the different technical job positions - tudents serve as executive producer, producer, line producer, production assistant, grip, director, technical director, audio operator, graphics operator, teleprompter operator, tape operator, video shader, floor director, camera operators, reporters, and anchors.
