The Art Institute of Atlanta — Decatur Recognizes Decatur Students “Emerging Talent”
DECATUR (GA) – From nearly 50 entries, 22 art works by junior and senior students at Academe of the Oaks and Decatur High School were selected for inclusion in “Emerging Talent,” a juried exhibition sponsored by The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, which opened April 17 and runs through May 29.
The opening reception was held on April 17, when the winning entries were announced. Winning first place was Ryan James of Decatur High School for his work, “Self-Portrait.” He received a $3,000 tuition scholarship to The Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur. In second place was Ariel Roegger-Buck of Academe of the Oaks for her work, “Recreation of Indian Woman,” for which she was awarded a $1,500 tuition scholarship. Ariel is a Stone Mountain resident (30083). Honorable mention went to Forest Van Hoene of Decatur High School for his work, “Purple Day.” Wendy Keith-Ott, art teacher at Decatur High School was awarded a Hewlett Packard DC5800 PC work her work as mentor to Ryan James, and as an appreciation of her contributions.
The final night of the exhibit will be May 22 as part of the Decatur Art Festival’s annual ArtWalk, from 6 to 9 pm that evening. The exhibit is on view in The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur Gallery, One West Court Square, Suite 110, Decatur, GA 30030.
