“Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists” Exhibit Opens September 1 at The Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur

Opening Reception Friday, September 4, as Part of Decatur Book Festival
 
DECATUR (GA) – To celebrate the third annual Decatur Book Festival, The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur opens “Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists” on September 1. The opening reception will be held on the eve of the Book Festival, Friday, September 4, from 5 to 8 pm. The exhibit runs through September 30 in the Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur. The exhibit and the reception are open to the public at no charge.

“Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists” features original artwork from ten of the South’s most notable children’s book illustrators. The exhibit includes 28 paintings, photographs, and cut-paper/mixed media. It also includes text panels and copies of the books that feature the work shown in the exhibit. All featured artists in “Storybook Look” are traditionally-published members of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the world’s largest organization for children’s book creators. The artists include:  Rick Anderson (“N is for Natural State”), Arni Blackford (“Quest for the Dragon Stone”), Mark Braught (“P is for Peach”), Karen Stormer Brooks (“Piggy Wiglet”), Sarah C. Campbell (“Wolfsnail”), Liz Conrad (“The Snow Ball”), Elizabeth O. Dulemba (“Paco and the Giant Chile Plant”), Laura Knorr (“The Legend of Papa Noël”), Daniel Powers (“Take the Lead, George Washington”), and Rick Spears (“Tales of the Cryptids”).

The exhibit will be on view in The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur Gallery, One West Court Square, Suite 110, Decatur, GA 30030, from September 4 through 30.
