“Green Design: The American Institute of Architects COTE Exhibit” On View at The Art Institute of Atlanta - Decatur
Back
DECATUR (GA) – In recognition of Earth Day, the American Institute of Architects and its Committee on the Environment (COTE) each year selects the top ten examples of sustainable architecture and green design solutions that protect and enhance the environment. Examples of the winning designs from 2008 became the touring exhibit currently on view in The Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur. The exhibit, which runs through August 31, includes a lunch & learn with interior design faculty member Lilia Gomez Lanier in room 225 at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 27. There is no charge to view the exhibit or attend the lunch & learn.
COTE’s mission is to “…promote the role of the architect as a leader in preserving and protecting the planet and its living systems.” Their ten criteria for measuring sustainability include sustainable design intent and innovation; regional community design/connectivity; land use and site ecology; bioclimatic design; light and air; water cycle; energy flows and energy future; materials and construction; long life and loose fit, and collective wisdom and feedback loops. An award was presented for each of these, representing work across America, from the Queens Botanical Garden’s visitors center in New York and the Lavin-Bernik Center at Tulane University in Louisiana to the Cesar Chavez Library and Community Center in Arizona and the Discovery Center at South Lake Union in Seattle.
The exhibit will be on view in The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur Gallery, One West Court Square, Suite 110, Decatur, GA 30030, through August 31. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 am to 7 pm; Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. For information or directions, call 404.942.1800 or visit www.artinstitutes.edu/decatur.
