DECATUR (GA) – It’s the perfect way to start your exploration of the third annual Decatur Book Festival: come by The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur on Friday evening, September 4, from 5 to 8 pm for the opening reception of “Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists.” The exhibit and the reception are open to the public at no charge – and it’s perfect for the whole family.

“Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists” features original artwork from ten of the South’s most notable children’s book illustrators. The exhibit includes 28 paintings, photographs, and cut-paper/mixed media. It also includes text panels and copies of the books that feature the work shown in the exhibit. All featured artists in “Storybook Look” are traditionally-published members of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the world’s largest organization for children’s book creators. The artists include:  Rick Anderson (“N is for Natural State”), Arni Blackford (“Quest for the Dragon Stone”), Mark Braught (“P is for Peach”), Karen Stormer Brooks (“Piggy Wiglet”), Sarah C. Campbell (“Wolfsnail”), Liz Conrad (“The Snow Ball”), Elizabeth O. Dulemba (“Paco and the Giant Chile Plant”), Laura Knorr (“The Legend of Papa Noël”), Daniel Powers (“Take the Lead, George Washington”), and Rick Spears (“Tales of the Cryptids”).
