The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur Announces New Degree Program in Game Art & Design
ATLANTA (GA) – The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur continues to grow, and beginning fall quarter, the college will offer a bachelor of fine arts degree in game art & design. The growth of this industry has been phenomenal over the last decade and the demand for artists who can create these games is high. The program focuses on developing students as game artists, prepared to enter either the game or entertainment industries. Students begin the program by developing their manual and computer-based artistic skills, study fundamentals of painting and sculpture, and then move on to the structure and narrative potential of games, studying design, scriptwriting and storyboarding, and character design. Jobs in this field include game designer, digital artist, modeler, storyboard artist, 3D illustrator, and FX artist.
According to Sarah Gorham, associate dean of academic affairs, “The addition of the bachelor of fine arts in game art and design complements The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur’s mission as a private college of creative professional studies. Graduates of the game art and design program will be prepared with artistic skills to enter the competitive multibillion-dollar game industry job market; our graduates at The Art Institute of Atlanta have a 90% plus job placement rate within 6 months of graduation, a fact of which we are all very proud.”
