Alumni Success Stories

Kevin Dillon (Media Arts & Animation 2004)

JOB TITLE:
Human Factors Engineer, Northrop Grumman
Colorado Springs, CO

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsibilities range from doing visualization support work for proposals, demonstrations, and contracts to designing knowledge delivery systems via visualization

Most work is in support of defense contracts, research and development

HOW HE GOT THERE:
Job was a direct result of school-generated externship with Northrop Grumman

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS:
"Don’t be afraid to look for work in places that are out of the mainstream of the graphics community. The field of information visualization is an area of CG design that has become extremely viable for anyone with the initiative to explore it. Just look at the range of media from the Discovery Channel to many medical, architectural, and scientific journals to see the extent to which your talents can be used…There is a lot more going on out here than one sees in the entertainment industry. Success is there for anyone willing to look beyond their preconceived notions of what their careers ought to be used."

OTHER THOUGHTS:
It was not one class in particular, but the focus on fundamentals of being a computer graphics artist that was most influential to me. There is not a day that goes by that I do not fall back on fundamentals such as color theory, perspective and drawing skills."
