The Art Institute of Colorado Honored Intersection of Art and Education with Art Fun(d)!

Back

[DENVER, CO, August 25, 2009] – The Art Institute of Colorado hosted its first annual Art Fun(d)!, an art sale and celebration benefiting its Student Scholarship Fund, on Sunday, August 23 from 4-6 p.m.  First Lady of Colorado Jeannie Ritter served as the Honorary Event Chair.

Over 150 guests gathered at The John Jellico Gallery at The Art Institute of Colorado on a warm August afternoon to enjoy art, hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and live jazz music by the Jon Solomon Trio.  Guests included Former First Lady Frances Owens, Dr. Dean Prina, City Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, and David Alexander.  Art Fun(d)! featured individually-created works from local artists, media personalities, community leaders, Olympians and Art Institute of Colorado faculty, staff, students and alumni. All pieces of art were created on an 8” X 8” canvas, but encompassed a wide range of mediums and styles.

More than 100 pieces were exhibited anonymously and sold on a first-come, first-served basis for $50. Twelve select canvases were a part of a silent auction. The anonymity of the exhibit encouraged viewers to select pieces based on their visual interest and the price allowed for accessibility and affordability of art by a wide audience.

Almost all of the canvases were sold, and the event raised over $4,000 for next year’s scholarships.

In 2009, The Art Institute of Colorado awarded $15,000 in EDMC Education Foundation scholarships to five worthy recipients. The EDMC Education Foundation was established in 2000 to offer support to Art Institute of Colorado students who are interested in continuing their education in the creative arts.

2009-2010 EDMC Education Foundation scholarships were awarded to:
•    Kristopher Hutson, Graphic Design - $5,000
•    Jennifer Caplan, Graphic Design - $2,500
•    Camden Yehle, Culinary Arts - $2,500
•    Khu Schefferstein, Photography - $2,500
