Alumni Success Stories

Nicki Snyder (Media Arts & Animation 2001)

JOB TITLE:
Graphic Artist, Carrot-Top Industries Inc.
Hillsborough, NC

JOB TITLE:
Responsible for all graphics, from images for a semi-annual catalog to company mailers

Does vector art for all custom work including flags, banners, floormats and tablethrows

“I’m also in charge of creating items such as street banners that are exclusive to our company, rather than using a vendor which so many other companies do. Gives us originality.”

HOW SHE GOT THERE:
Internship at Z-Axis (a forensic animation company) turned into a full-time position after graduation

Moved to North Carolina and worked freelance graphic design and Web jobs

Worked more than two years as a digital artist doing photo restorations and graphic design for a photographer in Fayetteville

Hired by Carrot-Top Industries and moved to Durham/Raleigh

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS:
Be patient. Jobs aren’t always thrown at you. Explore different aspects of the art field before settling in. I did everything from animation to restoration and Photoshop work to land in the graphic artist job that I really love. Plus, try to have a website…the easier you can show your work to someone, the faster it is for them to consider you.
