Alumni Success Stories

Nicole Askari (Graphic Design 2005)

JOB TITLE:
Graphic Designer, Richmond American Homes
Denver

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Works on projects as a team member or individually:
Designing and updating insertion ads for various newspapers and magazines throughout the U.S.

Concept and design of direct mailers, signage, flyers, brochures, logos and newsletters.

“It’s a very fast-paced environment and there is never a dull moment!”

THE ROAD TO SUCCESS:
Worked full time in non-field-related jobs as a student…“a challenge, but it helped me balance my work and organize my time. Being able to work full time and still have an award-winning portfolio is something that I take much pride in. I did have several free-lance jobs which I believe really allowed me to have a complete portfolio and were very influential to my getting hired.”

Met her current supervisor at Portfolio Review and was hired at Richmond Homes.

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS:
“Work hard and always question if you could be working harder. When you feel confident with your work, ask yourself what you can do to make it even better. Remember, in terms of your education and future, your portfolio should be the single most important thing in your life. It’s the key to your dream job.”
