The Art Institute of Colorado students aid Aspen Fashion Week in making winter wear hot to trot
DENVER – Fit. Stitch. Fix. Check. And onto the runway you go. Fashion students from The Art Institute of Colorado have packed their most stylish threads and are heading up the mountain to assist behind the scenes at the 4th annual Aspen Fashion Week (AFW), March 11 – 14. In their second year of participation, the college has been commissioned to cater to VIPs and work as designer showcase backstage dressers.
The school’s Event & Fashion Show Production class, comprised of 17 Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design and in Fashion Retail Management degree program students, will spend six days assisting industry professionals at this year’s AFW. From prepping models to hit the “Snow Stage” daytime runway at the base of the Aspen Mountain to working styling events around town and serving as VIP ambassadors at “The Chateau,” a tented venue at The St. Regis Aspen, the students are privy to all the ins-and-outs of AFW.
“This is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience and see the day to day running of a large scale fashion event,” says Jill Gerloff, fashion instructor at The Art Institute of Colorado. “We are fortunate to have formed this partnership with Aspen Fashion Week through event founder Lisa Johnson and look forward to teaming-up with AFW for many years to come.”
Fashion Retail Management Bachelor of Arts degree program student Kristopher Magnuson will capture and post images of winter resort, ski and technical outerwear showcased at runway shows to Facebook on behalf of AFW. Social media and local public relations have also been placed in the hands of The Art Institute of Colorado as Fashion Retail Management Bachelor of Arts student Sarah Faulkner works with AFW to complete internship requirements.
