1. What counseling services are available at The Art Institute of Colorado?
Counseling services at The Art Institute of Colorado include individual, couples and group counseling for a variety of mental health issues. In addition, the counseling staff presents and facilitates psycho-educational outreach events, workshops and wellness fairs for the student body, classes and student housing. 

2. Who needs counseling?
We believe that counseling can be helpful to any and all students who are struggling with the challenges of being a college student. Some of the issues that we frequently see are:
• Depression, mood swings and bipolar disorder
• Anxiety and stress
• Grief and loss
• Post traumatic stress
• Time management and organization skills
• Relationships concerns
• Eating disorders
• Drug and alcohol concerns

3. Who are the counselors at The Art Institute of Colorado?
Our counseling staff includes mental health professionals who hold master’s level degrees or higher in counseling. All non-licensed counselors work under the supervision of a licensed staff member. The counseling staff also includes graduate level interns who are working toward their master’s degrees in counseling.

4. Do you prescribe medication?
The counseling staff at The Art Institute of Colorado does not prescribe medication. Referrals to community professionals are made when deemed appropriate.

5. How much does it cost?
Counseling services are offered at no cost to students attending The Art Institute of Colorado. Services are available for the duration of a student’s academic career. 

6. What about confidentiality?
The counseling staff at The Art Institute of Colorado upholds the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and therefore follows professional guidelines for confidentiality. Except in extreme circumstances, all communication with a counselor will be confidential unless you sign a written release.

7. How do I get started?
If you decide you would like to speak with a counselor you can call us at 1.303.824.4909 or stop by the Student Affairs office in room 220 at 1200 Lincoln Street to make an appointment.

8. What do I do on the day of my appointment?
You will need to arrive about 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment on your first visit to complete some basic paperwork. This confidential paperwork may include contact and demographic information as well as a brief description of what is bringing you to counseling.

9. What if the office is closed and it is an emergency?
The Student Affairs office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are in need of emergency assistance after office hours, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

10.  Who can help me with a disability/learning disability?
The Disabilities Services Coordinator is also housed out of the Student Affairs office at 1200 Lincoln St., Denver, CO 80203. You may set up an appointment by contacting 1.303.824.4909.
