MAR3730 E-Commerce Business
The astonishing growth of E-Commerce is one factor that has lead to the demand for advertising and marketing on-line. In this course, students compare traditional and electronic sales outlets to develop a clear understanding of the differences and similarities between businesses in this new environment. Students learn to apply traditional principles where appropriate and discover and apply a new fundamental understanding to developing E-Commerce environments. Marketing on the Web, addressing the elements and requirements of information distribution, advertising, and sales are also covered. This

This course refines the students’ competencies in the techniques of image manipulation and natural media electronic illustration. This course examines operational objectives in a retail structure. Emphasis is placed on planning, control, profitability, and staffing in a retail environment. The use of technology in the industry and the responsibilities of retail executives are examined as well. ENC1101 English Composition
This course centers on the development of the student’s writing skills. This includes a study of prewriting techniques; syntax; introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs; various methods of essay development (narrative, descriptive, comparison/contrast, argumentative, and process); and an introduction to research methodologies. Students write approximately 4,000 words for the quarter. Students must earn a "C" or higher to exit

Students examine the plethora of environmental problems we face as we enter the new millennium. Special focus is placed on South Florida ecosystems. The course involves several field trips with small admission fees. The course also may include one overnight field trip to Everglades National Park and the Florida Keys to snorkel on the coral reefs. The nature of mechanical equipment is explored in reference to architectural and interior design. Heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and plumbing are surveyed. This course introduces the meeting planner, catering, and banquet manager perspectives within the special-event industry. It includes event administration, coordination, and marketing in addition to risk management (both legal and financial). Students learn how to formulate contracts, establish check lists, coordinate departments through event orders, target markets, close sales, and make arrangements for ancillary services.

DM3900 Event Production
This course focuses on the production of live, onlocation televised events. All production aspects are covered, including pre-production planning, budgeting, and technical elements of remote productions. Students work with real clients and outside contractors to produce events in a variety of venues.

CU4026 Exploring Wines and the Culinary Arts
This course provides an introduction to the production of wine from vineyard to bottle, as well as a review of the basic grape varietals that are used to make wine. Through lectures, research and tasting, students are exposed to different types, styles and quality levels of wine. Students will become familiar with the world’s most important wine regions and learn the common criteria by which wines from these different regions are evaluated. This course is designed to teach students the applied approach to matching wine and food, using flavors, textures, and components present in food and wine as complementing strategies. The course emphasizes menu planning, preparation of foods, cooking methods, and tasting wines with food.

CU2012C Externship
The course has been designed to acquaint the student with actual working conditions in an
approved restaurant/hospitality establishment. This course is a supervised entry-level work
experience in the restaurant/hospitality field requiring a minimum of 90 work hours. Individual conferences and class attendance is required. Students are responsible for securing an externship job and may seek assistance through The Institute. Students gain experience needed to enter their field on graduation.
